Cash Register: A device which records sales with a secure cash drawer.
Customer Display: Customer-facing display showing product information such as price or a brief description of the product when scanned. Also known as Line Display.
E-Commerce: Retailing goods and services over an electronic medium, usually the Internet.
ECR: Acronym standing for Electronic Cash Register
EPOS: Acronym standing for Electronic Point Of Sale.

MSR: Acronym standing for Magnetic Stripe Reader. Used for reading magnetic stripes on credit, debit, loyalty and other cards.
POS: Acronym standing for Point Of Sale
Self Checkout: Automated point of sale system enabling customers to pay for goods without interacting with a cashier. Increasingly common in supermarkets such as Tesco and Asda.
USB: Acronym standing for Universal Serial Bus. An interface allowing peripherals to be attached to computer systems. USB interfaces are typically phasing out old-style serial interfaces.
